What do i use to create images that change by the user inserting data?

ok

so lets say i have a picture of an object and it's on my web page. how can i make it so that the size of the object changes off of dynamic data? so lets say a user puts in a number for a value and then the size of the object changes accordingly. what would i need to make this happen. which platform would be the best to use, which language?, are there any programs that would be good to user for this application. just brainstorming. any info would be awesome.

If you don't need to make the data changes permanent, you could do this with a client-side language. The obvious choices are

JavaScript (easy but may not have all the power you need)

Flash (almost as easy, much more powerful, but expensive)

Java (Free and very powerful, but mystifying if you aren't already a programmer.)

I've got some simple JavaScript animations (none that does exactly what you want, but that show the basic concept) on the web site for my book:

This chapter explains several forms of animation and interactivity, but it does assume you already have basic knowledge of JavaScript and the Document Object Model.

Good Luck!
